The Need

According to a report done by Global Issues, 640 million children (approximately 1 in 3) do not have adequate shelter, 15 million children are orphaned due to HIV/AIDS and in 2003 alone, 10.6 million children died before they reached the age of 5. Brothers and sisters in Christ, something must be done.

SET FREE'S RESPONSE

According to an assessment commissioned by the United Nations in 2009, 2.5 billion people live without adequate sanitation where 90% of raw sewage is dumped into surface waters. Over 4,000 children die per day from water borne diseases which ends up being approximately 2 (almost 3) deaths per minute! These are staggering facts.

SET FREE'S RESPONSE

More than 2.9 billion people live in “unreached” people groups in some of the hardest-to-reach areas of the world. This means each minute, each hour, each day tens of thousands die without any real access to the message that would save them from hell and save them for God’s love.

As you’ve pondered those numbers, another 105 persons have left time and entered eternity. How many do you suppose went to be with the Lord, and how many were consigned to the pit?

Friends, time is short.

SET FREE'S RESPONSE

Malaria. With the quick bite of a mosquito, life is turned upside down, and insome cases, taken. Fevers, chills, comas, brain damage, convulsing, death - the effects of the infectious parasite go on and on. The 2015 World Malaria Report, published by the World Health Organization (WHO), indicates 214 million cases of malaria, with an estimated 438,000 deaths wolrdwide, with 88% of those cases occurring in Africa. With approximately half of the world's population at risk for contracting this life-threatening disease, malaria is no small matter.

Malaria is a disease of the blood that is caused by parasites that are transmitted from person to person through the bites of infected mosquitoes. What seems to America as a disease of the past, is still running rampant in Africa, killing a child every 45 seconds. Every 45 seconds, he or she dies a preventable and curable death. Mosquito nets, as simple as it sounds, are the number one weapon of warfare against this deadly epidemic. Because the disease carrying mosquitoes mainly fly and bite during the night, sleeping under the protection of a net dramatically decreases the chance of becoming infected.

Real Impact

“Pure and faultless religion is this, to look after vulnerable children and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” – James 1:27

With the support of generous donors, Set Free Ministries has constructed 15 Impact Sites since the summer of 2009. An Impact Site is multifaceted in its purposes, serving as a place of refuge for thousands of vulnerable children , as well as a place to sleep, eat, and receive a Christian education. Before there was loneliness, hunger, and a blanket under a bush. Now with the Impact Sites in place, children have community, purpose, full bellies, and a sense of hope for what the future holds. Stealing and prostitution will no longer be the only options for income. The Impact Sites not only teach the basic education but go as far as to teach the children a specific trade, such as wood working or sewing, so that when their time at the center comes to an end they will have the ability and skill to get a job!

Approximately 5,000 vulnerable children are currently being cared for through the Impact Sites with over 100 requests from 100 different communities asking SFM for help. There are many lives left to touch!

All Impact Sites are run by leaders and teachers in the local community and are administered by our Set Free Ministries East Africa office. The goal is to help each site work towards its own financial self-sustainability.

Pure Water

I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…” – Matthew 25:35

Water (En). Agua (Sp). Eau (Fr). Maji (Sw). Spanning across all continents, races, tribes, and languages, is the innate, universal need for water. Besides oxygen, water is the most important nutrient for the human body, completely shutting down after only two days without it on a 120 degree day.

At Set Free Ministries, our mission is to set captives free from bondage in spirit, soul, and body. As of January 2010, we have added the “Pure Water Mission” to our list of projects so that we can bring the truth with action behind it. We have partnered with like-minded ministries in our efforts to get clean, drinkable water to every thirsty person in Uganda, Kenya and neighboring countries.

Discipleship

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations…teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
–
Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20)

In all three of our worldwide offices, the main focus of the ministry is biblical discipleship- teaching others about God’s Truth and how to walk in it.

From the heat of Uganda, to the crowded streets of India, to the busyness of USA, God’s Word remains infallible and absolute. Live in obedience to God’s ways and receive blessing; live contrary to God’s ways and reap the consequences that are sure to come. While the consequences may be hard, sometimes that is what it takes to bring us to our knees.

Free biblical discipleship is offered by hundreds of Set Free Ministries volunteers on a daily basis.

It is difficult to measure how many lives have been affected. SFM makes several trips a year worldwide to conduct teaching seminars about the freedom ministry. At these seminars, pastors and other community leaders gather together to learn further of God’s Word, who in turn go home and teach their churches and communities.

Mosquito Nets

Set Free Ministries has taken a stand in the fight against malaria. As humble servants of the Lord Most High, we have joined the fight in providing life-saving, protective mosquito nets to as many people as possible.

Hundreds of mosquito nets have been donated by Set Free Ministries and our supporters. Please stand with us. For less than $10.00, you too can make a life-saving difference for someone who will be forever grateful.

Paul Seruwagi

Program Coordinator

Ten years ago Paul Seruwagi obeyed God’s call on his life by volunteering as the pastor in charge of Administration and Coordinator of Kampala-based Glory of Christ Ministries’ branch churches scattered throughout the Ugandan countryside. It was during this time that God made it clear to Paul that he was to dedicate himself to serving believers in rural communities.

For the past six years, Paul has worked with Orphan Justice Mission (OJM) coordinating the community development work in three areas in southern Uganda. In early 2013 the schools served by OJM in these communities became the responsibility of SFM-East Africa, and Paul has joined SFM-EA as the full-time Program Coordinator.

Paul and his wife, Theopista, have been married for 13 years, and God has blessed them with one daughter and three sons.

Lydia Namutunzi

Discipleship Coordinator

Lydia was 15 when she responded to the call to give her life to Jesus, Christ. She says, “Having God hold my life together and walk me through the journey of life was the most amazing experience of my youth. Throughout school, God gave me a zeal to lead and inspire my fellow youth to live a fruitful life for Christ.”

This purpose became a calling from God for Lydia, as she serves in the capacity of Discipleship Coordinator for SFM-EA. Her responsibilities including developing discipleship programs for the staff and students at all the SFM-partner schools in Kenya and Uganda.

While continuing her education in pursuit of a Bachelors in Theology degree at Pan African Christian University in Kampala, Lydia also serves as an assistant pastor in her local church, helping empower and equip God’s people to serve their purpose as well as overseeing children and youth ministry.
